2024 Finals

The IBSA Bodysurfing World Tour Finals, bring together the top ranked bodysurfers from each regional area (40 men and 20 women), as well as bodysurfers who receive wild cards (8 for men and 4 for women). A total of 48 men and 24 women showcase their skills in this competition.

Trials Event: during the period 28 April – 7 May 2025 and prior to the Main Event.
Preliminary round with 36 competitors (24 men, 12 women) for 12 IBSA Wild Cards assignment (8 men, 4 women).

Main Event: during the period 28 April – 7 May 2025.
60 qualifiers from regional areas 2024 Qualifying Series + 12 highest finishing competitors from Trials Event

Trials Event participants:

  • First non-qualifiers from each regional area: 4 men and 2 women per area.

  • Best-placed competitor from national communities without qualifiers.

  • In case of vacancy, the competitor with the highest single event result: 1 man and 1 woman.

  • In case of vacancy, best ranked Australia/Asia area competitors.


Tie-Break Process
Should there be a tie in points between two or more competitors, the higher position will be awarded to the competitor based upon the following tie-breakers in order:

  • The highest finishing position from any regional event in that year, followed by second best, third best, fourth best, fifth best, etc until the tie is broken.

  • The rankings in the previous year.

  • In their regional event where they attained their highest finish, the points difference between the competitor’s score and the score of the lowest finishing competitor that advanced to the next round.

  • Highest heat score of any regional event.

  • Highest single wave score in any regional event.

Registration Process


The 2025 BWT Finals will follow a structured registration process with four phases:

Phase 1 (Deadline: January 31, 2025)
Regions allocate qualification letters to:

  • Top 8 men and 4 women for the Finals.

  • 4 men and 2 women for the Trials event.

  • One competitor from unrepresented countries.

  • In case of vacancy, Wild card entries for top performers.

Qualified athletes must register and pay via Live Heats by this date.

Phase 2 (Deadline: February 28, 2025)
Remaining spots are offered to the next highest-ranked regional competitors if initial qualifiers decline.

Phase 3 (Deadline: March 15, 2025)
If spots remain unfilled, they are offered to the next highest-ranked competitors until filled.

Phase 4 (After March 15, 2025)
Unused spots are returned to IBSA and reallocated to Australia/Asia competitors.

Alert system

We’re using a three-colored code alert system to keep you updated on the IBSA Bodysurfing World Tour competition status:

Green Alert: The competition is a “go” and will be held in 4 days. The forecast has held steady over the last few days. We have confidence that we can run the event in the forecasted conditions. We look forward to seeing all the competitors!

Yellow Alert: There are possibly favorable wind and swell coming 7 to 10 days. There is still uncertainty on the details of this potential swell. We are monitoring the forecast and buoys to confirm that the conditions will align for the swell.

Red Alert: There are no favorable conditions expected in the next week. We will continue to monitor the forecast.
