The 50th year of The Ventura Bodysurfing Classic, marked a significant milestone for BWT

Updated: Dec 13

The Ventura Bodysurfing Classic, held on November 30, 2024, marked a significant milestone for BWT. Hosted by the South Jetty Swells Bodysurfing Association, this contest served as the second stop in the North American Regional Series and a key North American Qualifying event. The ocean offered clean 2-3 foot right-handed wedging peaks, delivering punchy, hollow sections ideal for showcasing advanced bodysurfing skills. Despite some onshore winds in the afternoon and a dropping tide, competitors found the wedges and were able to demonstrate their mastery of the waves, landing progressive tricks in the most critical parts of the wave.

The contest saw intense competition, with standout performances in both the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions. In the Men’s Open, Jason Napolitano took the top spot, with Dan Malloy, Brett Templeman and Greg Wilkinson following closely behind. In the Women’s Open, Scotti Shafer clinched first place, with Meredith Rose, Carrie Johnson and Christina Gasparich rounding out the top four.

The rankings after Ventura solidified some shifts in the North American standings. Frank Musso maintained his lead in the Men’s rankings, followed by Greg Wilkinson and Ian Moore. For the women, Scotti Shafer held onto her top spot, with Meredith Rose and Marion Christensen trailing.
